A Few New Posts

I'm desperately trying to get caught up with my blog before the baby gets here in 6 weeks!  I'm getting there but in the meantime here's a few backdated posts you might have missed.

Smith's Bakery

Today I took the kids on their very first trip to Smith's Bakery which is pretty much a rite of passage for anyone who lives here in Bakersfield.  Smith's has been around since 1945 and I'd be willing to bet anyone who grew up here could easily recognize a Smith's cookie when they see one.  I know I can!

Evelyn and Preston were pretty excited.  Their eyes of course went straight for the smiley face cookies, a Smith's classic.  I went ahead and bought 6 so if he's lucky there might be one or two extra for Andrew when he gets home.

The kids couldn't wait until we got home to eat them so we busted open the box and enjoyed them on the grass under a nice shady tree in the parking lot.  Totally worth it!

"These are the best cookies in the whole world!" says Evelyn.
I happen to agree.

The End of an Era

Today I was looking back through old posts and noticed a certain similarity between a lot of photos.  You probably all remember Evelyn's well loved baby.  She has been in the family for a number of years now, longer even than Preston!  Well, out of curiosity I did a search of my blog for the word "baby" and here where the results...

Now I'm sure you've all been in suspense wondering what ever became of Baby so I'll explain ;) Sometime last year Evelyn slowly started to need her baby less and less until one day the baby "disappeared".  I thought that was going to be the end of her but when we moved I couldn't stand to get rid of her so I packed her up in a box.  Some time later when we unpacked Evelyn rediscovered her baby.  Strangely even after being away from it for several months she still had an overwhelming urge to grab her and give her a huge hug followed by a kiss.  Immediately after their embrace Evelyn gave the baby a long stare and said "What happened to her hair?!".  It was so cute like she had never even noticed her nappy hair until that very moment.  For several hours she played with her and put every single hair band she could find in her baby's hair until finally I was able to convince her that she didn't need her doll anymore and she agreed to give it away to another little girl.  So now, the baby saga is officially over.  That part of Evelyn's life is now over and she's finally moving on to bigger and better things!
